Bridal shower invitations

Bridal shower invitations, for every kind of shower.

Bridal showers are usually planned by someone other than the bride: a maid of honor, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, or a group of friends, often inviting people they barely know. The invitation has to introduce the host, honor the bride, and say what kind of afternoon or evening it will be. Below are twelve bridal shower wording examples, from a classic luncheon to afternoon tea, a couples shower, a surprise, and a stock the bar party, each on a real Bloomvite template. Pick one, change the names, add the registry link in its own section, and send each guest a personal link. Replies and dietary notes arrive in one list. Free for up to 50 people with no watermark.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick a template

Choose a design, then change the font pair, accent color, and cover photo on a live preview that is the real invitation.

  2. 2

    Add details and guests

Create the event as "Party", fill in the date and venue, and add guests by hand, or import a list on Pro or Large.

  3. 3

    Send and relax

Send each guest a personal link from your email or messages. Review replies in the guest list. Pro and Large add reminder emails for eligible pending guests with email addresses.

What to include

Who it honors
The bride's name, or both names for a couples shower. Full name for a formal shower, first name for a relaxed one.
Who is hosting
The host's name, so guests who do not know each other know whose party it is and whom to ask.
Date, time, and end time
Showers usually run two to three hours. An end time helps guests plan the rest of their day.
Where
A home, a restaurant, a garden. Bloomvite turns the address into a map link.
Theme or dress
Tea party, garden party, brunch, lingerie. One line tells guests what to expect and what to wear.
Registry
A registry link in a section under the invitation, where guests who want it can find it.

Wording examples you can use

Each example is shown on a real template. "Use this wording" starts your invitation with it, and you change the names and details to yours.

Etiquette notes

Who can host

Almost anyone can host a bridal shower: a friend, the maid of honor, a group of bridesmaids, or family. The one exception is the couple: throwing their own shower is considered a faux pas. With several co-hosts, list all their names on the invitation so guests know whom to ask.

Shower guests are wedding guests

Normally anyone invited to a shower is also invited to the wedding. The recognized exception is an office shower thrown by coworkers who know the wedding itself will be small. If you are planning a shower for someone else, get the wedding guest list from the couple before you send a single invitation.

When to hold it

The ideal time is two months to two weeks before the wedding. Earlier, and it feels disconnected from the day; later, and it crowds the final weeks when the couple is busiest.

Writing the invitation when you are the host

Shower hosts are often writing to people they have never met: the groom's aunts, the bride's college roommates, her new coworkers. A few details make that easier for everyone:

  • Introduce yourself in the host line. Hosted by Caroline Turner, sister of the bride, tells a stranger exactly who you are.
  • Say whether it is a surprise. If it is, say so twice: once on the card and once in the details, with the time the bride arrives.
  • Mention anything guests should bring. A recipe card, a bottle for the bar, a piece of advice for the couple. Put it in the details, not on the card.
  • Give a way to reach you. Guests who cannot make it often want to send a gift. A line in the details with your email or phone number answers the question before it is asked.
  • Keep the bride's size and preferences private. For a lingerie shower, share sizes in the details section, which only invited guests can see.

Setting up a shower on Bloomvite

Create the event as a Party and name it after the bride, for example Abigail's bridal shower. Pick a template, choose one of the examples above from the wording picker, and add a registry section with a link to any registry: a store, Zola, Amazon, or a honeymoon fund. Every reply includes a dietary notes field, so the tea sandwiches suit everyone. If several people are hosting, one of you creates the event and shares the guest list with the others.

Keeping a surprise a surprise

A digital invitation is easier to keep secret than a card on the fridge. Leave the bride off the guest list, ask guests to arrive before her in the wording, and share the link only with guests. The link is not listed anywhere and search engines do not index invitations.

When to send it

  1. 2 months to 2 weeks before the wedding Hold the shower. Emily Post calls this the ideal window. [1]
  2. About 4 weeks before the shower Send the invitations. This is our suggestion rather than a rule: enough notice for a weekend afternoon, not so much that it is forgotten.
  3. 1 week before the deadline Nudge anyone who has not replied. On Pro, Bloomvite emails the reminder.
  4. About a week before Close replies, then send final numbers and dietary notes to the venue.

Questions

Who hosts a bridal shower?
Almost anyone: a friend, the maid of honor, the bridesmaids, or family such as a mother, sister, or grandmother. Emily Post's one exception is the couple, who should not throw their own shower. The host's name goes on the invitation.
Should everyone invited to the shower be invited to the wedding?
Yes, normally anyone invited to a shower is also invited to the wedding. The exception Emily Post names is an office shower thrown by coworkers.
When should bridal shower invitations be sent?
We suggest about four weeks before the shower, which gives guests a comfortable amount of notice. The shower itself is ideally held two months to two weeks before the wedding.
Where should the registry go?
A shower is a gift-giving party, so guests will look for the registry. On Bloomvite it goes in a section under the invitation, one tap away, which keeps the card itself clean.
Which event type should I choose on Bloomvite?
Choose Party when you create the event, and name it after the bride. Every template works for a shower, and the wording picker groups the shower examples together.
Can guests tell me about allergies?
Yes. Every reply has a dietary notes field, and the answers appear in your guest list.
How do I word a couples shower invitation?
Name both people in the honoree line and say it is a couples shower, as in the couples example above, so partners know they are invited too.
Is it free?
Free for one event and up to 50 people, with every template and no watermark. Above that, $39 per event for up to 300 people, one-time.
